Gotcha4Life
Gotcha4Life’s Mentally Fit Primary Schools program is a partnership helping schools embed mental fitness across the whole school community. With a focus on prevention, the program supports students, staff, and families through simple daily habits, consistent language, and evidence-based tools that make a lasting difference.
At Peakhurst West Public School, we believe that supporting our students goes beyond the classroom. Building strong mental fitness helps our children understand their emotions, build positive relationships, and face challenges with confidence. This program is part of our commitment to fostering wellbeing and resilience, giving students the skills and habits they need for lifelong mental health.
Our students have been enjoying learning ways to strengthen their mental fitness through the exploration of three key protective factors:
What is mental fitness?
Mental fitness is the ability to navigate life’s challenges, manage emotions, build strong relationships and seek support when needed. Just like physical fitness, mental fitness develops over time through regular practice. At our school, we support students to build these lifelong skills by strengthening emotional adaptability, social connectedness and help-seeking, creating a shared approach to wellbeing across our school community.
What does Gotcha4life look like at PWPS?
Weekly lessons
Students participate in weekly Gotcha4Life lessons focused on building mental fitness through three protective factors. Through practical activities and discussions, students develop skills to manage emotions, build positive relationships and confidently seek support when needed.
Consistent language across the school
Gotcha4Life provides a shared wellbeing language across our school, helping students and staff talk openly and confidently about mental fitness. Using consistent language in classrooms and the playground reinforces key strategies and helps students recognise their emotions, connect with others and seek support when needed.
Whole school assemblies
Our whole school Gotcha4Life assemblies bring students and staff together to strengthen our shared approach to mental fitness. Gotcha4Life representatives visit our school to lead engaging activities and conversations that reinforce key wellbeing messages, celebrate connection and encourage students to look out for themselves and others.
Parent and carer workshops
Our Gotcha4Life parent and carer workshops provide families with practical strategies and tools to support their child’s mental fitness at home. These sessions strengthen the connection between home and school, helping families use shared language and approaches to support wellbeing, resilience and positive relationships.
Wellbeing projects
Our students take an active role in promoting mental fitness through collaborative wellbeing projects. Recently, our Year 5 students worked together to explore ways to strengthen wellbeing, connection and help-seeking across our school, giving them a meaningful voice in building a positive and supportive school community.
Free webinars for parent and carers
Gotcha4Life offers free webinars for parents and carers, which we regularly share with our school community. These sessions provide practical tools, strategies and information to help families build mental fitness, strengthen connections and support wellbeing at home.
