Our support unit
Our support unit is a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where students are supported to learn, grow and thrive. We currently have three K–6 support classes, providing small, caring learning environments tailored to the individual needs of our students. Our dedicated staff support students to learn at their own pace, build confidence and independence, develop positive relationships, and access meaningful learning opportunities in a safe and supportive setting.

Who we support
Our support unit helps students with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), speech or language difficulties, physical disabilities, and emotional or behavioural needs.
Placement is based on an assessment to make sure each child gets the right support.
How we support students
Personalised Learning and Support
Students in our support unit benefit from small group and one-on-one teaching, with lessons tailored to their individual goals, abilities and learning needs. They have access to specialist staff and resources, as well as programs designed to build social and emotional skills, confidence and independence.
Dedicated Classroom Support
Each of our support classes is led by a dedicated classroom teacher who plans and delivers personalised learning, with support from a School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) throughout the day. Together, they provide individualised learning based on each student’s strengths and needs, establish consistent and supportive routines, and create a caring environment where every student feels safe, confident, valued and ready to learn.
Individual Education Plans
Each student has an Individual Education Plan (IEP) tailored to their individual strengths, needs and learning goals. These plans support students to develop their literacy, numeracy and communication skills, build positive relationships with others, increase their confidence and independence, and develop strategies to manage their emotions and behaviour.
Working in Partnership with Families
Our lessons, support and learning plans include regular check-ins, clear communication with families, and ongoing monitoring of each student’s strengths and areas for development. This approach helps improve student engagement, supports positive learning outcomes and guides smooth transitions as students progress through school and beyond.
Inclusive Play
Our students enjoy access to shared and inclusive play areas, providing opportunities to play, connect and build friendships with students from across the school. These spaces encourage social interaction, a sense of belonging and positive relationships, while supporting students to develop confidence and independence in a safe and welcoming environment.
How students access our support unit
Placement in our support unit follows an access request process. This helps us understand each student’s needs and plan the right support. The process usually includes:
- Meeting with our learning support team to talk about your child’s needs
- Providing documents or assessments
- Review and recommendation by a specialist panel
- Creating an individual education plan (IEP) for your child
You can contact our school anytime to ask about our support options and how the process works.
How we work with families and specialists
We value strong partnerships with families and specialists to ensure every student receives consistent, individualised support. Our teachers maintain regular communication with parents and carers to celebrate achievements, share progress, discuss individual learning and wellbeing needs, and work together to plan meaningful next steps.
We also collaborate with therapists, counsellors, health professionals and other specialists involved in a student’s care. By sharing strategies, goals and insights, we can provide a consistent approach across school, home and other settings. These partnerships help us better understand each student’s strengths and needs and ensure they feel supported, confident and connected throughout their learning journey.
